The Leslie Floor Sanding Company History

Since 1956 Leslie Floor Sanding - Purveyors of Nice Work

1955 – When we began

After graduating from High School I needed a trade, something more than working part time at Amer’s Service station (at the corner of Merriman Rd. & West Market St.), The Ohio State Employment Agency offered me an opportunity to do floor sanding work with a local Akron Company. At One Dollar and Fifty cents an hour to start, that was big starting money for those times.

Winter of 1956 became slow times, I decided to try to do floor work for my self. I rented floor equipment at first to get started. Working out of a 1947 Plymouth Business Coupe reinforced with Stuuver Spring Co.  springs, that coupe did me very well. By the spring of 1956 I invested in my own sanding equipment. The building boom at the time furnished me with plenty of work. By the end of the first year I had $1,100 in the bank and thought I will not need to do this work very long and will be able to retire early. WRONG – After 51 years I am still running a company that over time that has worked for thousands of families, business’s, churches and school systems from all areas of Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.  We probably have installed floors or sanded floors for your Great-grandparents, Grandparents or parents. Perhaps they are recent customers. From small rooms to gymnasium floors and everything in between, we can do it. We install new floors and we repair older floors. We can sand and custom stain floors to match your desire. We use oil based and water based finishes.

Our estimates are not based on “I need this Job” attitudes.  We estimate on what you need to have done, or what you want for your home or business.   We look at a floor and will advise you if we see any problems or other reasons your floors perhaps should not be sanded. Sometimes your existing floors need only to be cleaned and recoated to bring it back to a nice condition. We will tell you this.

After your floor is sanded, we will furnish you with information to maintain your floor and provide you with floor protectors so your furniture is more floor friendly when it is moved. With proper care your recoated floor should give you many years of service before they should be redone again. With the maintenance available today your floors will look nice without the waxing and maintenance that the older floor finishes’ required.

We are still a small company that pays attention to detail to make sure when our work is completed you will have a quality job. We look at each job to meet the customer and to make sure there are not any unforeseen problems when starting your work.

About pricing –

You can go to any state in the United States and buy the same model appliance or brand name piece of furniture.  There very well could be a price difference depending on a company having a discount or inventory reduction sale. You’re still buying the same thing. When you hire a craftsman whether it be a carpenter, plumber, roofer or even a floor sander you are not buying the same article that is mass produced and the same one shipped anywhere in the USA. You are purchasing the experience of our 52 years in business. Do not let price alone direct your decision to use one person or company over another. Price only becomes an issue when quality is found missing. Leslie Floor Sanding only has two slogans, Purveyors of Nice Floors and Floors of Pride. We are very aware of our end product, your floor.

Yes we are insured.

After 50 years dust has become a big issue to some people.  Saw a board in two and no sawdust, that’s hard to believe. We also can use a special dust containment system.

Reference’s furnished upon request.

Another good company that is not around anymore using to have a great slogan. Let our experience be your guide.
